Biography of Marco Swit (musician - saxophonist)

dMarcos Swit is a very talented musician who was born in Arequipa-Peru on 7 august. His arrival to this world was unexpected, especially to his own mother. Since birth, the inspiration from his family instilled in his spirit a vibrant and passionate personality. This inspiration became evident in his colorful and brilliant music.

He was 13 years old when he began playing the Zampoñas (Indian musical instrument) with his mother, who also played the guitar. This musical activity was combined with high school studies which led to his advancement as a college student. After successfully completing his academic career, he acquired a job at a large liquor store company. There, he came to realize that a career as a professional musician in Europe was his goal in life.

At 22 years of age, Marcos traveled to Germany in pursuit of his dream. Three months later, he encountered musicians while being in the city of Karlsruhe . Through these musicians he met his mentor, Romeo Requena Fuentes, a medical doctor and musicians. Dr. Requena encouraged Marcos to undertake a new endeavor , the saxophone. The desire to play this instrument was sparked by watching “video clib” at the age of 15. This new venture taught him new strategies which improved his abilities as a musician.

Marco Swit continued to play South American folkloristic music for some period of time. At the age of 23, he decided to study music at the Zurich Academy of Contemporary Music. Furthermore, he became a member of different groups which exposed and enabled him to play international music. In Switzerland he studied Jazz at the St. Gallen School of Jazz, and joined the salsa group “Candela Viva.” This is where his development for the sweet flavor of Latin music began.

sAfter many years of playing several musical genres paired with a guitarist or pianist, he met an Egyptian musician, Hesham Tibia, who invited him to play in the city of Sharm el Scheik . There, he had the opportunity to learn and incorporate the peculiar tones and sounds of the Egyptian music, which enriched his musical mastery. As a result, the opportunity to play in different venues in Cairo presented itself. This proved to be beneficial to his growth as a musician, since Cairo encompasses several musical expressions from Africa, Europe and the Americas . In a distinctive fashion, his music positively impacted the people of Cairo as well as European tourists. Furthermore, he engaged in several recording sessions as well as musical performances in Sharm el Scheik. He then returned to Europe to continue his development as a musician.

His return to Europe greatly improved his improvisational skills with the Saxophone due to influences by the legendary Charly Parker, Paquito de Rivera, Michael Braker, Bob Minzer, and especially the Cuban musician Kiko Cowan. Collectively, these musicians influenced Marcos’s innate abilities to combine multicultural styles to create a more vibrant style of music. Jazz was slowly being incorporated into his personality, which became a beacon in the development of his multicultural music while enriching his interpretative qualities and intense Latin spirit.

After 22 years of absence, Marcos returned to his hometown of Arequipa-Peru. Here, he provided his people with his best music while displaying his abilities with the Saxophone. The beautiful sounds and harmonic combinations drawn from his inspiration have been enjoyed by listeners wherever he played music ever since.
